Indictment filed against light rail terrorist who murdered British student
Jerusalem District Attorney's Office files indictment for premeditated murder against Jamil Tamimi after he brought a kitchen knife on the Jerusalem light rail and stabbed Hannah Bladon to death.
An indictment was filed on Thursday morning against Jamil Tamimi, 57, from Ras al-Amud, who stabbed 21-year-old British student Hannah Bladon to death on the Jerusalem light rail in April.
According to the indictment, which was filed by the Jerusalem District Attorney's Office, Tamimi carried an 18.5cm kitchen knife with him with the intention of murdering somebody. After boarding the light rail, Tamimi stabbed Bladon seven times in the chest after identifying her as a weak target that would be incapable of resisting him.
The indictment also highlighted the fact that Tamimi didn't stop his attack until light rail passengers jumped on him and restrained him until police arrived.
Addressing claims of Tamimi's mental health, the Shin Bet issued a statement, saying, "This is yet another case among many Palestinians who suffer from personal, psychological or moral distress and choose to carry out an attack in order to find refuge from their problems."
Commander of the Jerusalem District Police, Deputy Commissioner Yoram Halevy, also drew attention to the fact that Tamimi had recently attempted suicide.
Following the attack, Bladon's family issued an emotional statement expressing their pain since their daughter's murder. "Hannah was the most caring, sensitive and compassionate daughter you could ever wish for. She was driven and passionate and her death leaves so much promise unfulfilled. Our family is devastated by this senseless and tragic attack."
