Former cabinet secretary allegedly tried to promote wife's candidacy
Tzahi Braverman reportedly spoke to members of the Judicial Selection Committee about his wife, a magistrate's court justice vying for a position in the district court.
Former cabinet secretary Tzachi Braverman reportedly tried to influence the Judicial Selection Committee to promote his wife, according to Channel 2 News.
The Judicial Selection Committee is expected to convene early next week to discuss the appointments of judges in the magistrate's court and the district court.
Among other things, the committee is scheduled to discuss Nava Braverman, a Tel Aviv Magistrate's Court judge who submitted her candidacy for the district court in either Tel Aviv or Jerusalem.
According to the report, the former cabinet secretary personally spoke to several of the committee members about his wife, and sent emissaries to other members of the committee to promote her candidacy.
Tzachi Braverman said in response, "It is very unfortunate that even today, in 2017, there is no respect for the success of a woman who, in her own right, was elected as a judge in the magistrate's court, and there is an attempt to credit her promotion to her husband's efforts.
"My wife Nava, who stands in her own right, is being evaluated for her eight years as a judge in Israel and does not need any help, not even from me. The members of the committee will evaluate her according to her abilities and professionalism. "
