Day will participate in next week's race in Sonoma and will drive the No. 23 Camry for BK Racing.
"I'm excited about my first NASCAR Cup race," said Day in an interview with Ynet. "There's no better way to start than on the race track. I'm already waiting to get behind the wheel and I thank BK Racing for the awesome opportunity."
Day, who has competed for years in a sub-division of NASCAR in Europe, has competed in a number of races in the US's Xfinity Series League. He won acclaim and drew attention after nearly finishing third in a rainy race before another car hit him. Despite the setback, Day still led his team to their best result ever.
In the past three years, Day has won eight victories in NASCAR Europe and was twice voted the most popular driver. Day also won the 2009 Asian Formula Renault Series and the prestigious FIA GT Championship.
In honor of his accomplishments on the race track, Day was also named the 2016 Athlete of the Year in Israel.
