One third of Israel's 2017 food production was thrown out

Leket Israel, The National Food Bank organization, an Israeli charity that distributes surplus food to needy people, announced that 33% of Israel's food production was be thrown into the trash in 2017.

 

According to the organization's data, 2.3 million tons of food worth NIS 19.5 billion were thrown out, half of which it defined as edible.
