WZO battles anti-Semitic symbolism on social media

Finding a need to educate the general public on Nazi, racist symbolism used today by hate groups, the World Zionist Organization launches a campaign to find symbols now commonly in use and expose them to the masses.

The Center for Countering Anti-Semitism of the World Zionist Organization (WZO) launched an online campaign to raise awareness of anti-Semitic symbols, icons and emblems used by anti-Semitic and Nazi organizations in the past, and are now used as hate symbols by neo-Nazis, boycott movements and racist organizations.

The center provided a list of such symbols, word combinations, letters or numbers of anti-Semitic significance along with an explanation of their origin and use today.

The campaign is aimed at exposing extremist and dangerous groups around the world. These symbols are disseminated among such organizations, printed on flags, sprayed in the streets and tattooed on the bodies of gang members without people knowing their true meaning.

WZO Vice Chairman Yaakov Hagoel said, "Jews, Israelis, youth and tourists sometimes encounter symbols and characteristics that at first glance seem completely innocuous, but behind them, clear anti-Semitic insinuations hide—in images, captions or combinations of those.

"I think it is of the utmost importance to expose the public at large on social networks to the significance of these symbols and the meaning behind them. Together, we will expose the face of anti-Semitism and uproot it. It is not possible for anti-Semitic organizations and individuals to hide under apparently meaningless symbols."
