AG: 'Netanyahu's investigations are conducted as fast as possible'

Speaking at a conference of the Israeli Television News Company in Jerusalem, Attorney General Mendelblit says probes against PM are at their final stages; adds criticism against law enforcement system destabilizes public's trust in it.

Attorney General Avichai Mandelblit said Monday that the investigations into the alleged misconduct by Prime Minister's Benjamin Netanyahu are being conducted as fast as possible, while maintaining professionalism.

Mandelblit rejected criticism from the Left as well as the Right about the time required to conclude the investigations.

According to the attorney general, police are in the midst of wrapping up Case 1000 (the Gifts Affair) and Case 2000 (the Netanyahu-Mozes Affair). Mandelblit added that the investigation surrounding Prime Minister Netanyahu into the Bezeq-Walla Affair (also known as Case 4000) is approaching its final stages.

"To conclude the investigation," Mandelblit explained, "they have to focus on what is truly important."

While appearing at a conference of the Israeli Television News Company in the Jerusalem International Convention Center, Mandelblit slammed the "interpretation" given to the ongoing investigations' timetables and the decision-making process that stems from it.

"There are attempts to make everything revolve around politics—on the one hand there are claims of persecution and on the other hand the claims are completely opposite," he opined.

"The one thing we are after is the truth. These claims might destabilize the public's trust in the law enforcement system. We cannot let that happen," Mandelblit asserted.
