A billboard sign posted in the southwest Iranian city of Shiraz was removed in the middle of Wednesday night after an embarrassing mistake was noticed— The plaque presented IDF soldiers as Iranian fighters.
The sign was placed as part of the "The Sacred Defense Week", an Iranian annual commemoration of the 1980–1988 Iran–Iraq war.
Alongside the picture of the Israeli soldiers, a caption of a poem in Persian commemorating Iranian soldiers was inscribed on the sign.
The company responsible for putting up the billboard sign has yet to respond, but it is possible that the picture was taken from a photo library. It was only after the fact that the company realized that the soldiers depicted in the image are Israeli.
As if it weren’t bad enough that an image of Israeli soldiers was posted on a giant billboard in a country which calls for the destruction of Israel, the image was edited so that a female IDF soldier, who was photographed standing next to the other soldiers, was left out of the frame.
