Teenage girls pose doing a Nazi salue in Auschwitz

Three girls pose doing Nazi salute at Auschwitz

Polish authorities are searching for three teenage girls who posed for a picture at the entrance of the Auschwitz-Birkenau death camp while doing a Nazi salute; 'youths are absorbing hate unconsciously,' says the Facebook group that exposed the incident.

Polish authorities are searching for three teenage girls who posed for a picture at the entrance of the Auschwitz-Birkenau death camp while doing a Nazi salute, according to the British Daily Mail.

The girls shared the picture on Instagram this Tuesday, but deleted it shortly after.

A group called Center for Monitoring Racist and Xenophobic Behavior, which monitors online anti-Semitism, shared the picture on Facebook and criticized the girls’ behavior.

The center said that “this kind of behavior proves that there is a dire need for educational activities that deal with the horrors of totalitarian regimes and of the Holocaust, in light of the rising anti-Semitism in Poland,” adding that “youth are absorbing hate messages unconsciously.”

The center was able to save a copy of the photo before it was deleted, and authorities are trying to identify the girls in order to report them to their school.

This is not the first such incident to happen at Auschwitz—last year a group of teenage boys from Sweden was photographed doing a Nazi salute during their visit there.
