Former Egyptian President: We didn't know about tunnels from Gaza to Sinai

Former Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak testified Wednesday at the trial of his former successor, Muslim Brotherhood member Muhammad Mursi, who is facing charges related to prison breaks at the height of the 2011 uprising.

During the trial, Mubarak claimed the state  did not know that at least 800 armed people crossed into the northern part of Sinai Peninsula, through tunnels from Gaza.

"They entered Egypt through Gaza and had weapons. ... They headed toward the prisons to release prisoners belonging to Hezbollah, Hamas and the Muslim Brotherhood," Mubarak said, referring to Lebanon's Hezbollah militant group and Hamas militants who have ruled Gaza since 2007.
