Miri Regev: We don’t pillory elected officials ahead of elections

Following the announcement that Attorney General Avichai Mandelblit is expected to release his recommendations on the Netanyahu file before the April elections, Culture Minister Miri Regev criticized Mandelblit saying: “It isn’t right to pillory elected officials ahead of elections,” adding that “Netanyahu is the most fitting candidate for the role of prime minister.”

According to Regev, “the attorney general had many months to gather evidence, so why should the prime minister have to explain himself in five minutes? It’s not right to interfere in the election process if the prime minister is not allowed to explain himself… The public cannot only hear one side. Mandelblit’s handling of the file makes it seems as if he is part of the effort to topple Netanyahu; he too has a right to defend himself and have his version be heard.
