International Judo Federation bans Iran over boycott on Israeli athletes

The International Judo Federation suspended Wednesday the Iran Judo Federation from all activities held by the international organization.

The suspension was announced in a statement on the organization's website following the events of last month's World Judo Championships in Tokyo, where Iranian judoka Saeid Mollaei was instructed by the Iranian authorities to withdraw from competing to avoid a potential contest against Israeli judoka Sagi Muki.

"Following what happened during the last World Judo Championships Tokyo 2019," read the statement. "The International Judo Federation pronounces against the Iran Judo Federation a protective suspension from all competitions, administrative and social activities organized or authorized by International Judo Federation and its Unions".
