Soul singer for Tel Aviv concert

Dubbed 'one of the greatest vocal talents of our time,' local soul singer Roy Young to perform in Tel Aviv this Friday

Jamaican-born soul singer Roy Young was first brought to Israel in 1969 at the age of 20 by Haim Saban, head of the international media giant Saban Capital Group. Saban was holding auditions in London to bring a soul band to tour Israel.

Since that time Roy Young has continued to go back and forth to Israel and has toured extensively in Europe, Russia and the Middle East. During one trip back to Israel he met Orly. They married and decided to settle in Tel Aviv.

Roy has been chosen on numerous occasions as a singing guest-of-honor. He was the first-ever local artist chosen to close the Eilat Red Sea International Jazz Festival in 2005.

Seymour Stein of Sire Records paid Roy Young a fine tribute in making the following comment:

“The blues is a dying genre as no one has come along to replace the greats who rose to prominence during the first half of the 20th century. Roy Young’s soulful, but original voice transports one back to that classical period of the 50’s and 60’s.”

While producer Willie Mitchell, after hearing Roy Young’s latest CD entitled Memphis, had this to say:

“Who would have thought that a Jamaican-born singer living in Tel Aviv would be responsible for saving soul music in the United States?”

Summing up, Chairman of AOL Europe, Philip Rowley claimed that Roy Young is one of the great vocal talents of our time. He has known him and believed in him for more than twenty five years.

Roy Young will be performing at the Azrieli Center in Tel Aviv on Friday July 10, 2009 commencing 8 pm. Tickets from Bravo.
