MITZPE RAMON - Mass poisoning in the South: At least 47 yeshiva students aged 14 to 16 were taken to a Be'er Sheva hospital Tuesday after apparently eating bad shawarma, the marinated Mid-Eastern sliced meat delicacy. The yeshiva students were reportedly vomiting and suffering from diarrhea and stomachaches. Magen David Adom medical teams were dispatched to the yeshiva around 6 p.m. Tuesday. Following an initial examination, ambulances from across the region were called in to take the apparent food poisoning victims to Soroka hospital. An initial inquiry revealed the students were served shawarma prepared by a catering company for lunch. Health officials in the southern community of Mitzpe Ramon estimate that about 200 students ate the rotten food. The Health Ministry has already launched an investigation into the matter. Meanwhile, the owner of the catering company that prepared the shawarma was taken in for questioning.
