NABLUS - An al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades member shot and killed by soldiers Thursday near the West Bank town of Nablus was planning to stage an attack in Jerusalem, the IDF says. The army says 21-year-old Ibrahim Hashash was killed after he opened fire at an army convoy, but Palestinian sources later denied the report. The suspect's weapon was confiscated and he was taken to an Israeli hospital, where he later died. Army officials said Hashash opened fire at troops in the Balata refugee camp, a known terrorist hotbed, striking the bulletproof vest of one soldier and an IDF vehicle. Al-Aqsa Brigades vow to retaliate However, Palestinian eyewitnesses told Ynet undercover IDF forces arrived at the outskirts of the camp and fired at Hashash, who they say was wounded in his leg. The soldiers, who arrived in two vehicles, promptly surrounded the injured man and left the scene with him, the Palestinians said. Hashash did not try to fire back at troops and was surprised by the apparent ambush, the eyewitnesses said. Meanwhile, a senior al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades figure told Ynet the group would no longer abide by a de facto cease-fire with Israel, in the wake of Thursday's incident. The terror leader also vowed to retaliate for Hashash's death. Recruited by Hizbullah An IDF inquiry revealed Hashash was one of several wanted terror suspects the IDF was searching for in the camp. As noted above, officials said he was planning to stage an attack in the capital. He had been recruited by Hizbullah and belonged to the Tanzim terror group, the officials said. They said he opposed recent intra-Palestinian understandings to maintain a calm, and was involved in instigating terror attacks in the past and present. In a seperate incident in Nablus, troops searching the home of a wanted Hamas member found his sister hiding his gun in her underpants. Officials said the army would consider re-introducing strip-searches among Palestinian women when looking for potential terrorists.
