Palestinians planned to kill cops
Two Palestinians suspected of planing to murder Israeli police officers, chop their legs off; Jewish man also arrested in the affair
TEL AVIV - Security authorities foiled a plot by two Palestinian brothers who planned to murder police officers, steal their guns, and chop off their legs.
The story was cleared for publication Thursday.
The suspects apparently planned to fire at a police patrol vehicle, which is usually manned by three officers, remove the officers from the vehicle and ensure they are dead, before escaping with the jeep and later burning it.
The two Palestinians were identified as Walid and Nidal Shubachi of the al-Ram village, located north of Jerusalem; both are reportedly in their 30s.
The plot was uncovered following an intelligence tip regarding arms dealing among Palestinian East Jerusalem residents. Subsequently, police decided to use an undercover agent in a bid to bust the weapons selling ring.
Brothers served 9 years in prison
Recently, Jerusalem Police arrested 14 Palestinians from East Jerusalem and other parts of the territories and one Jewish resident of Jerusalem in suspicion of selling 16 firearms (seven rifles and nine guns,) ammunition, and drugs to the police agent.
The Shubachi brothers were among those who came in contact with the agent. During their meetings, the two asked him to assist them in murdering Israeli police officers. The two suspects observed the routine of northern Jerusalem area police officers and were planning to carry out the attacks in the coming days.
The suspects were known to police and already served nine years in prison for the murder of a security services informant. The two were released from jail about a year ago.
Meanwhile, the 35 year-old Jewish suspect was apprehended at Ben-Gurion Airport, while he and his fiance were on their way to get married abroad.
