The Rabbinical Court in Jerusalem has decided on Sunday that the marriage between Yigal Amir and Larissa Trimbobler is valid. Amir is in prison for assassinating Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin. The decision by the Court came after Rabbi Mizrahi, together with two rabbis employed by the Prisons Authority, received testimonies from Amir and his wife, and, based on these, passed along their approval for the marriage to their rabbinic court, which declared the marriage valid. The couple announced a number of months ago that they had married through the use of a messenger, with Amir’s father blessing the bride on behalf of his son. They had hoped that the marriage would reinforce their fight against the Israel Prisons Authority, which has rejected the pair's request to spend time alone behind prison walls. However, the Authority has ruled that Amir does not have the right to spend time alone with his wife, since “he still holds a murderous and dangerous ideology.” Shmuel Casper, a lawyer representing the couple, said that “in light of the Rabbinic Court’s decision to validate the marriage, I now expect the Interior Ministry to list them as a married couple. I welcome the Court’s decision, which took courage, and was taken according to Jewish law, despite all the pressures to rule otherwise. Its just too bad that it took a year to authorize this.” “I now hope that the way will be clear for them to spend time in seclusion, and that Amir will end his 13-day hunger strike,” added Casper. An assassin's wife speaks But Trimbobler says she does not feel at ease, and is still worried about Amir. “If the decision was taken I am happy, but this is the thirteenth day of his hunger strike and I have no contact with him. This abuse must stop. "Public pressure is now growing, and I have a received a supportive letter signed by 180 respectable figures who want to defend my rights. It began in the Russian sector, and has spread all over the country. “We are talking about life or death. Yigal is going all the way here. The level of public pressure shows that people understand that we cannot continue to be absued like this," said Trimbobler.
