The IDF’s operation in Nablus came to a close as the remaining forces left the West Bank city late Thursday evening, army officials said.
“Terror cannot be eradicated in four-five days; anyone who thinks so simply doesn’t understand the situation,” a senior Central Command officer said.
“The operation’s objective was to diminish the threat against Israel’s home front with a minimum amount of casualties among Palestinians and IDF soldiers,” he added.
Another officer said Fatah members in Nablus are attempting to launch terror attacks against Israel, adding that the Palestinian group is “more dangerous than Hamas.”
During the activity a Palestinian was killed and nine terror suspects were detained and taken in for interrogation by Israeli security forces.
An IDF soldier was moderately wounded duringthe operation, while three others sustained light injuries.
Army forces operated against terror infrastructures in Nablus since Saturday, but the activity was significantly expanded at the beginning of the week. On Sunday a large-scale security force entered the city, and a curfew was imposed on the Casba (ancient quarter).
Soldiers uncovered three explosives laboratories containing explosive devices, LAW antitank rockets, materials for preparation of explosive devices and additional weapons, including military equipment and ammunition.
During the operation security forces also uncovered a cache of recording and video equipment used to film suicide bombers before they leave for their missions. Five wanted terror suspects were arrested.
