IDF kills gunman near border fence

Soldiers open fire at man attempting to plant explosive device in central Gaza Strip, near Karni crossing; no injuries reported among soldiers

A Givati Brigade forces on Friday morning opened fire on a Palestinian man attempting to plant an explosive device near the border fence in the central Gaza Strip, not far from the Karni crossing.

 

An exchange of fire erupted in the area, and the gunman was killed. There were no injuries among the soldiers. According to military officials, the Palestinian tried to hurl a grenade at the troops.

 

According to Palestinian reports, an IDF force proceeded into the Sajaiya neighborhood in the eastern part of Gaza City, where the soldiers exchanged fire with local gunmen. They noted that an Air Force jet was involved in the clash, in addition to artillery fire.

  

This is the second such incident in recent days. On Tuesday morning, a terror attack was thwarted near the fence as soldiers opened fire at a Palestinian cell attempting to plant an explosive device in the Kissufim area. Two Palestinian were killed in the incident and two others were injured. There were no injuries among the soldiers.

 

A serious incident took place near the fence three weeks ago. Major Eliraz Peretz and Staff Sergeant Ilan Sviatkovsky were killed after their force entered the Palestinian territory after spotting gunmen planting explosive devices.
