Israel Defense Forces arrested two Palestinians in the greenhouses of the Talmei Yosef community in the Eshkol Regional Council Sunday night. The two infiltrated Israel from the Gaza Strip.
The suspects were arrested during joint IDF and Israel Air Force scans, after human footprints were identified east of the border fence, and terrorist infiltration was suspected.
The Palestinians, who were unarmed, apparently entered Israel in search of work. However, the IDF has launched an investigation into the matter.
Recent days have seen a number of incidents in the Gaza Strip, which have illustrated the tension on the border.
On Saturday, the body of a 78-year-old Palestinian man was found where a shooting incident occurred the day prior.
The IDF said its watchman identified a Palestinian approaching the border fence south of Karni crossing, and a force deployed to the scene opened fire and combed the area. The soldiers identified a hit.
On Friday an explosives device was activated against an IDF force patrolling near the border fence in the southern Strip. No one was injured and no damage was caused.
A day earlier, Palestinians opened fire at the border fence near Kissufim, where engineering works were underway.
An IDF force securing the works fired back, and no one was injured.
