Palestinians say Gaza gunman killed in strike; IDF denies attack

Gazans report Israeli aircraft strike terror cell in Zaitun neighborhood shortly after mortar launched towards Erez crossing; one terrorist killed, two others wounded; army say did not attack in Strip

Palestinian security officials said one terrorist was killed and two others were wounded Sunday evening during an Israeli aerial strike on a terror cell east of Gaza City's Zaitun neighborhood.

Adham Abu Selmiya, the spokesman for emergency services in the Hamas-ruled territory, said the terrorist's body and the two injured gunmen were taken to Shifa Hospital.

It was also reported that Israeli aircraft attacked another terror cell in central Gaza, but according to the Palestinians no one was injured.

The IDF denied the reports, saying it did not strike in Gaza.

Shortly before the aerial strike Palestinian gunmen fired a mortar shell towards the Erez crossing. Terrorists belonging to armed wing of the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine claimed responsibility for the mortar fire.

Sunday morning saw a Qassam rocket fired towards the western Negev region. No injuries or damage were reported in the attack.

There has been an increase in violence along the Gaza border in recent days. Palestinian terrorists fire rockets and mortar shells at Israel, and the Israeli military retaliates with attacks on facilities and smuggling tunnels in Gaza.

Last week, a Grad rocket fired from Gaza exploded in the Israeli city of Beersheba, the first such attack since Israel's bruising invasion of Gaza two years ago, which was aimed at stopping the rocket salvos.
