Meretz locks Knesset list, eyes election

Leftwing party votes for Ilan Gilon, Nitzan Horowitz for top places in Knesset roster following Zehava Gal-On; 'If you're leftwing, vote Merertz,' says top party member

The Meretz Party held its primaries on Sunday evening, voting for MK Ilan Gilon at number two, following party chairwoman Zehava Gal-On, and MK Nitzan Horowitz at number three.

 

Coming in fourth was Michal Rozin, former executive director of the Association of Rape Crisis Centers in Israel, followed by Isawi Faraj, Tamar Zandberg, Avshalom Vilan and Mossi Raz.

Ilan Gilon, accompanied by many supporters, noted that "If 50% of those who love me voted for me, I'd be prime minister."

 

MK Horowitz admitted that though the party had just concluded its primaries, it was already in the midst of its campaign for the Knesset election. Referring to the January 22 election, former party chairman Chaim Oron concluded: "If you're leftwing, vote Meretz."
