2 teens in car killed after driver flees roadside license check

Fatal accident in Umm al-Fahm: Boy without license tries to flee law enforcement, lightly injures patrol officer, then hits parked car, two 15-year-old friends in car of driver killed, driver injured

A teen driver without a license attempted to flee a roadside licensing checkpoint and ended up in a car accident which left two of his friends dead: Anas Jabbarin and Aubada Jabbarin, both 15, were killed Wednesday night in the Albir neighborhood of Umm Al-Fahm ,when the car in which they were riding hit a patrol car, and then a parked car. The boy who was driving the car was injured lightly to moderately, and one policeman was lightly injured.
The incident began after police noticed the Mazda and a boy standing outside the car, according to police. "The officer had gone to check the driver, who was standing by the vehicle," a law enforcement statement said. The initial investigation revealed that the boys who were killed were passengers in the Mazda ,being driven by their friend who didn't have a license. When their friend saw an officer approaching, he jumped in the car and tried to flee in the Mazda.

"The driver saw the officer, entered his vehicle and as he attempted to drive off, hit the policeman and the patrol car. Later, he lost control and hit a parked vehicle," a police statement said. Neighborhood residents claimed that police chased the fleeing driver, but police denied doing so.

  • Aubada Jabbarin was killed instantly, while Anas Jabbarin was wounded and died on the way to Haemek Medical Center in Afula .The three boys were in the same vehicle.

One of the city’s residents told Ynet that there are efforts being implemented in the city to raise awareness of the danger of traffic accidents.

Even so, he added, "Unfortunately they don't learn the lesson."
"Many drivers continue to run rampant without considering the danger they cause," the man said.
  • He warned parents of youth to "look after their children and not allow them to drive vehicles without license or to act up."
