J'lem mother: I killed my children because I wasn't a good mother

Karina Bril, suspected of killing her two children, then attempting suicide, confesses in police interrogation

Karina Bril, the mother suspected of killing her two children in Jerusalem, was questioned on Tuesday and confessed to the crimes, police said on Wednesday.

 

During her short interrogation she explained she killed her children: "I wasn't a good mother." Bril, who attempted suicide after the killings, is still hospitalized in Hadassah Ein Kerem Hospital. She was remanded for an additional eight days on Tuesday.

Bril and late children

 

Bril told her interrogators how she stabbed the children, and what occurred in the apartment. Her interrogation is expected to continue in the coming days. It is believed that her lawyers will plead insanity, and demand a psychiatric evaluation.

 

Bril, who made aliya this year, is suspected of stabbing her children with a knife. Her sister, who was in the house at the time of the stabbing, failed to stop her. While the sister went to try to get the help of a neighbor, Bril tried to put an end to her own life, and was since hospitalized in critical condition.

 

Bril, originally from the Ukraine, is a divorcee who immigrated to Israel with her children while their biological father remained in Moscow. He arrived in Israel after police contacted him with news of his children’s deaths.

 

Bril’s present boyfriend is currently in Switzerland.
