Knesset Member Ahmed Tibi is an Arab citizen of Israel known for speaking on behalf of the Palestinian people as well as the Israeli-Arab sector. He is from the Hadash-Ta'al party.
Tibi was a close associate of the late Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat. In 1993, he was appointed speical advisor to Arafat for the negotiations that preceded the Oslo Accords.
After Arafat's death in November 2004, Tibi remarked that he saw the late Palestinian leader as a father figure.
Tibi was born in 1958 in the Arab town of Taybeh, in Israel. He is a doctor and earned his degree from Hebrew University in Jerusalem.
In 1996, Tibi formed the Arab Movement for Change Party (Ta'al is Hebrew acronym) and was elected to the Knesset in 1999.
In 2004, Tibi served as a member of the House and Economics committees in the Knesset.
He is married with two children.
