Hamas, Jihad say ‘Yes’ to truce
Terror groups say they are committed to cease-fire understandings, threaten to retaliate for any Israeli aggression
GAZA - The Hamas and Islamic Jihad terror groups announced Saturday they are committed to the Israeli-Palestinian truce declared in the Sharm el-Sheikh summit.
However, Hamas would retaliate for every case of “Israeli aggression,” senior group official Mahmoud al-Zahar said.
Developments in Sharm went beyond previous agreements between Abbas and Palestinian factions, al-Zahar said, and added the group would relay the most recent message from the Palestinian leader to the Hamas leadership abroad.
Hamas will examine Abbas’ messages regarding the Sharm summit and take a final decision on the matter, said another senior Hamas official, Ismail Haniya.
“Israel will be responsible for any new outbreak of violence,” he said.
'Hizbullah isn't undermining truce efforts'
Senior Islamic Jihad figures said they also accept the Hamas’ position and would respect the recently declared truce. However, a decision on whether to officially accept the cease-fire has not yet been reached, they said.
Meanwhile, senior Hizbullah figure Sheikh Naim Qassem said his organization is not attempting to undermine cease-fire efforts.
“We have said time and again that we are not interested in the details of what the Palestinians are doing,” he said.
