Katsav asks Knesset to extend his suspension period
Temporarily suspended president asks House Committee to extend his suspension period until further notice; ‘we’ll approve request so he does not serve as acting president when such a dark cloud of suspicions hangs over his head,’ committee chairman says
Temporarily suspended President Moshe Katsav requested on Wednesday that the Knesset House Committee extend his suspension period until further notice.
Katsav’s initial request to be suspended was approved three months ago.
Katsav’s brother Lior said earlier that the president will ask to remain suspended until Attorney General Menachem Mazuz decides whether or not to file an indictment against him over allegations of rape and sexual assault after a hearing on May 2.
House Committee chairman Ruhama Avraham (Kadima) told Ynet that she would convene the committee next Sunday to approve the request “so that Katsav will not serve as the acting president when such a dark cloud of suspicions hangs over his head.”
It is thought that Katsav’s request will be approved.
