VIDEO - Police divers searching the Yarkon riverbed Thursday for the remains of missing four-year-old Rose Pizem have recovered a red suitcase from the river's waters. The divers who recovered the suitcase were part of a private team contracted by the police to assist in the search. Due to poor underwater visibility conditions, the divers had to conduct a literal hands-on search of the riverbed, which is how they stumbled on to the suitcase. The police confirmed that human remains were indeed found in the suitcase, and that they are believed to be Rose's: "Divers searching the water recovered a suitcase containing human bones," Police Commander Nisim Mor told reports. "The suitcase also contains other items, which I'm not going to discuss right now. We believe that these are probably Rose's remains. If that turns out to be the case, we will all feel a great sense of relief (for finding her). "The suitcase has been turned over for forensic analysis, in order to determine exactly what it contains," he said. Rose went missing in May. Once police began investigating, they quickly came to the conclusion that her mother, Marie-Charlotte Renault and her grandfather Ronny Ron had a hand in her disappearance. Early in the investigation, Ron admitted to murdering the child, stuffing her body in a red suitcase and dumping her in the Yarkon River but later recanted his testimony. The suitcase exudes a very distinctive odor and we've seen other things we can't elaborate on. "Our forensics team is currently doing all that needs to be done and I believe we'll have definitive results in a few days." Attorney Revital Swaid, who represents both Marie and Ron said that the two "were still unaware of the suitcase's recovery, since they are currently being questioned." I'm sorry that the one thing we feared the most turned out to be true, but I'm relieved she was found. I have to talk with them now, and see what they have to say about it," she said. Swaid petitioned the courts saying her clients want a forensic expert of their choice present while the remains are being examined. The police, with the assistance of hundreds of volunteers, launch an extensive search for Rose, which entailed both a land canvas and diving units which scoured Tel Aviv's Yarkon riverbed. Police Commissioner Dudi Cohen, who arrived at the recovery site shortly after the remains were found, offered the following: "The police investigation spanned several scenes, some of which remained covert. "The end result is the recovery of the child's body. The creativity and original thinking presented by the investigators yielded these results. We must, however, exercise due caution and wait for the forensic results before making any final announcements." Police chief Cohen said an indictment against Ron and Renault will be filed "as soon as possible". Attorney Adi Hadar, who represents Vivien Yaakov, Rose's great-grandmother, said that the news of the remains' findings were "a serious blow to the family". "Vivien is distraught. She's beside herself. We are now waiting the forensic results," she said. Rose's paternal grandmother, Betty Sghaier said that she wants her granddaughter to be buried in France. “I want her body back with us she has nothing to do there (in Israel). I want them to do everything possible to have her buried in France,” she said. Regarding Ron and Renault Sghaier said, “They are monsters, murderers. They don’t have a heart. I want Ronny and Marie punished, they should rot in jail.” MK Nadia Hilou (Labor-Meimad), who heads the Knesset's Committee on the Rights of Children said Thursday that with the recovery of Rose's remains, "The end has come to one of the darkest, most gruesome affairs in Israel's history. "The last glimmer of hope we had, that there was no way parents can be responsible for such an atrocity, has shuttered. All we can do now is pray that Rose will finally rest in peace. We now have to do all we can to prevent the next murder." Yael Levy, Avi Cohen and Yael Branovsky and AFP contributed to the report
