According to available details, the two were identified as residents of Gaza Strip. According to military sources, it is still unclear whether the two were smugglers or terrorists.
The two suspects were intercepted by the Border Guard's Mista'arvim unit – the corps' elite counter-terrorism unit.
A cross-border terror attack in June left Said Phashpashe, 36, from Haifa, dead, after terrorists targeted two vehicles used by defense contractor crews building the new border fence.
The attack, which took place on the border's precarious "dune sector," included the use of an RPG rocket, explosives and artillery fire.
The attack heightened tensions on the already volatile border and saw the IDF, in a very unusual move, deploy tanks closer to the fence.
