The IDF warned Hamas on Sunday that the attack tunnels which it continues to dig into Israeli territory will become a “death trap” for terrorists.
Speaking shortly after it was cleared for publication that the IDF had uncovered a cross-border terror tunnel near the Gaza Strip border, GOC Southern Command Maj. Gen. Eyal Zamir accused Hamas of “systematically violating Israel’s sovereignty,” adding that their actions are causing an escalation of violence on the sensitive border.
“The people who it harms the most are the residents of Gaza," Zamir said. “I have warned in the past and I will warn the enemy again: Anyone who goes into and stays in a tunnel is risking his own life. Terror tunnels are a death trap for you."
The IDF announced Sunday that it had uncovered the tunnel for the second time in a month and a half.
In a video uploaded to the internet, Zamir said that the IDF had destroyed the tunnel, completely neutralizing it as a threat.
“The tunnel, that penetrated hundreds of meters from the border, belongs to the Hamas terror organization,” Zamir confirmed.
“The discovery of this terror tunnel is part of systematic, continued and advanced efforts,” he said, adding that “any tunnel that that is exposed, will be destroyed. We won't hesitate to protect the citizens of Israel and the residents of the Gaza region."
