Police rescue toddler from car after passersby refuse

Passersby refuse to shatter windows of car parked on street in Rosh Ha'Ayin with one and a half year old girl inside; toddler rescued by police after 20 minutes

A one and a half year old girl was left inside a vehicle in Rosh Ha'Ayin for about 20 minutes on Monday. Passersby refused to shatter the car windows, and the girl was rescued only when police arrived at the scene. The toddler did not require medical attention.

Her mother told officers: "I just went to get a key."

A Rosh Ha'Ayin resident walking along HaZionut Boulevard noticed the toddler locked in the car and called the police. The dispatcher asked the woman to shatter the car's window so the toddler's condition would not deteriorate, but she refused, as did other passersby.

Officers from the Rosh Ha'Ayin police station who eventually arrived at the scene shattered the windows and rescued the girl. The mother was taken in for questioning.

Three children have recently died after they were forgotten in vehicles by their parents. In mid-July a two-year-old girl died when she was left in a car in Moshav Dolev, and a day prior to that incident a five-month old girl died in a car in the Shilo community. In early July a nine-month-old girl died when she was left in a car in Ramat Gan.
