An animal rights activist said one of his colleagues received a photo of the injured Pekingese. "According to information I have gathered from local business owners, dogs tend to disappear in this area," another animal rights activist said.

Apart from the eye injuries, the dog is also suffering from tick fever and was taken to a veterinarian for treatment.

"At first we wanted to put her down, but when we gave her food and water she got up and ate and drank," said animal rights activist Yossi Iluz. "She wants to live. The vet said her left eye may be saved and that she will survive."

Police are searching for the abuser.
