Jenin terrorist charged with attempted murder of teenage girl in Afula
Nur Shinawi, 21, indicted for seriously wounding 18-year-old Shuva Malka in a stabbing attack on June 11, tells investigators he developed a hatred for Jews after his mother was 'humiliated' in a Temple Mount security check at and after his friends were killed while carrying out a terror attack against soldiers.
Shinawi was charged with offenses of attempted murder in a terror context, preparation for murder in a terror context, possession of a knife and multiple cases of illegal residency in Israel.
The indictment reveals that since the death of his friends during a stabbing attack they committed against soldiers at the Hawara Checkpoint in December 2015, Shinawi developed a sense of hatred towards Jews in general and religious Jews in particular.
In March, he entered Israel with a one-day permit for tourism purposes together with a group of Palestinian tourists who visited the cities of Haifa and Tiberias.
When they arrived in Tiberias, the defendant left the group and traveled by bus to Arab local council of Iksal. Throughout that period, he resided in Israel illegally and worked in odd jobs. During his stay in the country, he decided to carry out a terror attack and acquired two knives.
On June 11, he traveled to Afula in search of a target. As he got off the bus on the corner of Yehoshua Hankin and HaBanim Street, he spotted Malka, an 18-year-old religious high school student and decided that she would be good target for his attack. He assaulted and stabbed her multiple times.
Once he presumed that she had died, Shinawi fled the scene of the attack. When he noticed he was being chased by police, he planned to murder one of the policemen with the other knife in his possession, but he was soon neutralized and apprehended.
In his initial investigation, he said his hatred towards Jews was also driven by a security check his mother had undergone by Israeli police at the entrance to the Temple Mount, which he described as "humiliating," during the month of Ramadan in 2017.
Malka was seriously wounded in the attack, but later recovered and was discharged from hospital.
