Israel to withhold NIS 100 million from PA over payments to terrorists’ families

Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich signed a decree to withhold 100 million shekels from the Palestinian Authority each month to offset funds that the PA paid to terrorists and their families, public broadcaster Kan reported on Thursday.
The garnished funds will come from tax revenues that Israel collects on behalf of the PA under the Oslo Accords, a series of interim peace agreements signed by Israel and the Palestinians in the 1990s.
With this latest order, Smotrich has doubled the sum deducted each month from an original tax pool of NIS 600 million the Israeli government has voted last year to freeze incrementally.
