According to Leket Israel's report on Monday, the total amount of food waste in Israel for 2020 is some 2.5 million tons, which is valued at approximately NIS 19. 1 billion.
The total loss represents about 35% of the total food production in Israel, of which, some 1.1 million tons are rescuable, valued at about NIS 6.4 billion.
The data showed that the value of the food thrown in the trash is some NIS 615 a month per household in the Jewish state, and COVID crisis led to a change in consumption patterns and an increase of some NIS 800 million in domestic food loss.
