The seventh generation of the globally renowned Ford Mustang makes its debut in Israel, brought in by the official importer. Initially, only the GT Coupe version will be available, packing a 'Coyote' atmospheric V8 engine, a legacy from the previous model. This 5.0-liter engine can generate either 480 or 486 horsepower in the higher-end models, complemented by an active exhaust system.

The powertrain is paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission, and naturally, the model features rear-wheel drive. A 6-speed manual gearbox won't be an option in this market. However, future additions to the lineup will include a convertible model with an open roof and a base model powered by an updated gasoline engine (a 2.3-liter, four-cylinder engine delivering 315 horsepower).
The new Mustang, while based on the outgoing model, has undergone tweaks in suspension geometry, springs and shock absorbers tuning, and boasts a new steering system intended to enhance precision and handling. Top-tier models also feature a strut bar connecting the front shock absorber housings, thicker stabilizer bars, a Torsen limited-slip differential with a shorter transfer ratio (3.55 versus 3.15), and larger Brembo brakes (390 mm and six-piston caliper in the front, and 355 mm and four pistons at the rear).
Notably absent from the local specifications are adaptive shock absorbers, Recaro sports seats, the ability to remotely start the engine and unleash a "V8 roar sequence", and particularly, an electronic handbrake that could be used for drifts.
The exterior design of the new Mustang displays a muscular evolution from its predecessor, particularly noticeable in the GT versions slated for introduction here, with larger air intakes at the front and on the engine hood. The primary enhancement revolves around the driver's experience, featuring a digital dashboard ("12.4) and a substantial touch screen ("13.2), with many of the traditional switches being replaced.
The base version comes equipped with features such as leather seats with electric adjustment, heating and ventilation for the front seats, dual-zone climate control, a smart key, a wireless charging pad, and "19 or "20 wheels in the high-end version. Safety system offerings include autonomous braking, lane keeping with obstacle avoidance assistance, adaptive cruise control, and blind spot warning.

The interior
Our thoughts: With over 10.5 million units rolled out since its inaugural launch nearly six decades ago, the Ford Mustang has carved out a significant niche for itself, earning the title of the world's best-selling sports car. It achieved this feat not through revolutionary technological advancements, but due to its unique appeal and a range of versions catering to various tastes and budgets, from those craving style and romance to performance enthusiasts.
In contrast to its seasoned rivals, the Chevrolet Camaro and Dodge Challenger, which are transitioning away from gasoline towards electric power, Ford has managed to retain the traditional essence of a classic coupe with a large internal combustion engine and rear-wheel drive, even in its seventh iteration. Given that this could likely be the last time it maintains this format, it's a welcome opportunity for us to finally experience arguably the most quintessentially American car.
