The Turkish Space Agency added that many residents across different areas of Turkey observed the meteor, including Istanbul and the Antalya region. A video claiming to be from Syria was also shared, showing the green meteor.
In an interview with Hurriyet, a senior official from the Turkish Space Agency explained that "meteors break apart into many molecules upon entering Earth's atmosphere." This is the reason the meteor appeared green, he said.
In the past, researchers have explained that some meteors, which enter the atmosphere at high speeds, release a significant amount of nickel and iron at high temperatures, causing them to emit a green light.
