Health Ministry reports 646 new virus cases, 3 additional deaths

Number of patients in serious condition rises to 151, with 45 connected to ventilators; Health Minister warns local lockdowns are a 'necessity of reality'; IDF to enlist 200 reservists to assist hospitals' virus wings

The Health Ministry on Sunday reported three new coronavirus related deaths, bringing the death toll to 362.

    There are 47 people who are on ventilators while 108 are in moderate condition and the rest show light or no symptoms.
    So far, 19,008 people have recovered from the novel virus.
    The ministry said that on Sunday that they had tested 10,914 people so far, with 5.9% showing a positive result.
    Health Minister Yuli Edelstein warned Sunday that local lockdowns due to the coronavirus pandemic are a “necessity".

    "Lockdowns are a necessity of reality, but we must make sure citizens' needs are met," said Edelstein during a visit to Jerusalem Miciniplaity's coronavirus tracking center.
    Defense Minister Benny Gantz on Sunday announced several initiatives by the IDF to help in the battle against the virus.
    Starting Monday, the IDF will deploy 120 reservists from the Home Front Command to coronavirus wards in hospitals throughout the country to assist staff there.
    Hundreds of additional troops are also expected to join efforts in coronavirus hotspots as well.

    In addition, three new coronavirus hotels to house and treat both confirmed cases and people requiring quarantine.
    Tel Aviv’s Metropolitan Hotel will house people who need to be in quarantine due to potential exposure to the virus; the Ye’arim Hotel outside of Jerusalem will cater specifically to the ultra-Orthodox population, and the Seven Arches Hotel in Jerusalem will house confirmed coronavirus patients who have light symptoms.
    The hotels will be operated by the Israel Defense Forces’ Home Front Command.
