From West Bank to Gaza on foot

Knesset Member Arieh Eldad embarks on anti-pullout protest march after IDF lifts objection

TEL AVIV - Knesset Member Arieh Eldad (National Union) has embarked on an anti-pullout march Monday morning, leaving his new Sa-Nur home in the northern West Bank en route to Gaza settlements slated for evacuation.
IDF officials announced Sunday they forbid Eldad from embarking on his protest march for security reasons. However, earlier Monday Eldad received the IDF's green light.
Previously, Eldad said the army’s refusal is “a blunt violation of Knesset mebers' immunity.”
The permit, however, only allows him to walk to the West Bank settlement of Mevo Dotan.
Wishes for pre-pullout elections
Eldad hoped to attract a wave of followers that would be powerful enough to stimulate public momentum that will push forward the elections and at least delay the pullout.
“When thousands of Jews spend their nights awake for fear of being uprooted, I cannot sit back and maintain a routine lifestyle,” he said.
About a week ago, Eldad moved to Sa-Nur despite an IDF order barring Israelis from relocating to areas slated for evacuation.
