Settler leaders call on motorists to stop vehicles at side of the road for 15 minutes Monday to protest pullout. Yesha Council expects more than 100,000 Israelis to participate, activists say protest meant to encourage government to reconsider plan
The tires were discovered on main streets in Raanana, a suburban community 15 minutes north of Tel Aviv.
The discovery is believed to have foiled an anti-disengagement road-blocking protest. Following the discovery, city hall employees removed the tires from the area.
Police say they have boosted their patrols in the wake of repeated road-blocking incidents that seemed to catch authorities by surprise. In some cases, right-wing activists managed to block major thoroughfares across the country, including the Jerusalem-Tel Aviv Highway and the Coastal Road connecting Tel Aviv and Haifa.
Mass road protest planned
Meanwhile, the Yesha Council is planning to hold an anti-disengagement protest Monday evening that would see tens of thousands of pullout objectors stopping their vehicles at the side of the road for 15 minutes and holding up anti-pullout signs.
Settlers are claiming more than 100,000 to take part in the anti-pullout display, organized in a bid to encourage the Knesset and government to reconsider the planned settlement evacuation.
