Jericho effect: Kadima up by 2 seats

Poll: Kadima decline reversed in wake of Jericho raid; Labor down to 19, Likud up to 15

Kadima decline reversed: The latest pre-election poll shows Kadima would win 39 Knesset seats were elections held today, a two-seat increase from last week, Israel's leading newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth reported Thursday.

The boost in Kadima's power in the latest Yedioth Ahronoth/Mina Tzemach survey reversed the party's decline in recent weeks and could be the result of the Jericho operation Tuesday that saw IDF troops capture top detainees imprisoned in the West Bank town.

Meanwhile, the Labor party declined by one Knesset seat, down to 19, while the Likud gained one seat, up to 15.

Three other parties are holding steady according to the poll: Shas at 11, Israel Our Home with 10 seats, and the National Union-National Religious Party at 8. Leftist party Meretz, however, declined by two seats and is down to four.

Arab parties won eight seats in the survey, while United Torah Judaism won six.

The results of the poll, undertaken Wednesday evening, are based on the responses of 1,002 people who constitute a representative sample of Israel's adult population. The survey's margin of error is 4.4 percent.
