IDF Deputy Chief of Staff Maj. Gen. Moshe Kaplinski said Monday evening that ground forces have been operating in the past few days to destroy Hizbullah outposts in the village of Rajar.

Kaplinski said during a security briefing at Tel Aviv’s Kirya military base that IDF forces, including infantry and engineering corps soldiers, entered Rajar and demolished two Hizbullah outposts in the village’s northern section, which is under Lebanese control.

He added that exchanges of fire were reported during the operation.

Rajar is considered a weak point by the IDF, as the Hizbullah outposts there posed a constant danger to forces positioned in the southern part of the village, which is under Israeli rule.

In November 2005 an attempt to kidnap soldiers in the village was foiled.

The IDF forces also set up a barrier aimed at preventing infiltrations into Israeli territory from area. It should be mentioned that even today there is no fence in the Rajar area separating the Israeli side from Lebanese territory. However, IDF units were instructed to open fire at anyone coming within one kilometer of the border.

According to IDF officials, the objective is to change the security situation on the ground in the village and nearby areas.
