Police on high alert ahead of holidays

Officers to deploy en mass to prevent violence, terror; closure imposed on Palestinian territories

Police went on high alert Sunday night ahead of Israel's Memorial Day and Independence Day. A closure was imposed on the Palestinian territories, and will be lifted upon termination of the two consecutive holidays.

The defense establishment reports intelligence on nine specific terror plots, in addition to dozens of general warnings against suicide attacks, kidnappings, gunfire, and rocket fire.

On the eve of Memorial Day police will secure ceremonies scheduled to take place at various military and civilian cemeteries. Jerusalem's perimeter will be secured and checkpoints established, to remain in place throughout the holiday.

On the eve of Independence Day police will deploy in crowded population centers. Uniformed and plainclothes police officers will also deploy near entertainment centers to prevent violence and the sale of alcohol to underage customers.

The high-alert status will continue throughout the following day, with the focus shifting to parks, nature reserves, and other centers of activity.

Police call on citizens to be alert and to notify security forces in case of suspicious activity.
