Migron outpost in West Bank

Peace Now objects to transfer of Migron settlers to Adam

Movement says transfer of outpost residents to new homes in West Bank settlement constitutes defeatism

Peace Now said Sunday that a state decision to move Migron settlers to a new neighborhood to be built in the settlement of Adam was not a good solution to the issue of the illegal West Bank outposts.

On Monday the Supreme Court is scheduled to hold a hearing on the state's response to the High Court of Justice last week, in which it said it would carry out the move.

The movement has demanded that the High Court prevent the Defense Ministry from erecting 50 new homes in Adam, to which the state plans to transfer settlers currently residing in the Migron outpost.

Peace Now Secretary-General Yariv Oppenheimer said Sunday that "Migron has become the symbol for the state's defeatism in the face of legal violations".

He added, "The Defense Ministry has been forced to roll the hot potato to High Court justices instead of dealing with the problem itself."

The movement called on the court to prevent the transfer to Adam because it claims the move is part of an agreement between the Defense Ministry and Yesha Council that doesn't represent most of the population, and also because according to Peace Now, the move authorizes the theft of Palestinian land.

Peace Now also cited Brigadier-General Ilan Paz, who headed the Civil Administration during the years 2002-2005 and claims the transfer of civilians to Adam will take around seven years. The movement says the move is therefore insufficient, as it delays the evacuation of Migron.
