Bereaved parents: Netanyahu can't take pressure

Aggressive new campaign: Bereaved parents opposed to release of hundreds of terrorists in exchange for Gilad Shalit demand commission of inquiry into deal, launch unprecedented campaign accusing prime minister of conflict of interest

Bereaved parents take off the gloves: A group of bereaved parents who lost children in terror attacks are launching an aggressive campaign in a bid to avert the Gilad Shalit swap.

In a statement issued Wednesday, the parents' group launched an unprecedented attack against Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, calling for an official commission of inquiry into the "negotiations with and capitulation to Hamas."

"Should they release the most despicable killers, the murderers of our children, we'll do everything to topple Netanyahu and his government," one parent threatened.

The bereaved parents' group is concerned about reports of an upcoming security meeting convened by Netanyahu, fearing that a deal with Hamas is imminent.

While the new campaign also takes aim at Ehud Olmert and his government, it focuses on current PM Netanyahu. The bereaved parents say Bibi is willing to pay a heavier price than his predecessor in order to secure the abducted soldier's release.

"Netanyahu made a political career by writing and speaking out against capitulation to terror," one of the campaign's organizers said. "Yet as opposed to all his pledges ahead of the elections, he is about to capitulate in the face of media pressure that Olmert was able to withstand. As it turns out, Netanyahu is a man who cannot withstand pressure…such man is not only unworthy of heading a state, he's dangerous to it."

'Regain our senses'

The parents will also be turning to the state's comptroller in order to look into conflict of interest issues they say taint the prime minister's judgment. Specifically, the Rimon public relations firm that currently manages the Shalit campaign advised Netanyahu in the past.

The parents' group says the campaign is meant to prompt the government to reconsider the Shalit prisoner swap.

"It's not too late to stop and regain our senses, and to end the mad rush to release hundreds of terrorist murderers who will go on to sow terror and fire on our street," the group said in a statement. "We are urging the government to regain its senses and stop this mad dance, before it hurts the Israeli public."

The Prime Minister's Office issued the following response: "The negotiation team and security officials persist in their efforts to return Gilad Shalit home safely. The Prime minister already announced in the past that before approving any kind of deal he will bring the issue up to an open public debate."
