The IDF boosted the security arrangements around Navy Commander Eliezer Marom, following Monday's raid on the international aid flotilla to Gaza.
The measure was taken after sources expressed concern over Marom's safety, according to a Channel 1 report.Security was also boosted around IDF Spokesman Brigadier General Avi Benayahu's residence in the Sharon area, due to his frequent appearances in the media.
Commander Marom assumed his place on Israel's PR front hours after the incident occurred. "Along the entire event the commandoes displayed determination and courage, while acting in restraint," he told journalists in a press briefing. According to Marom, the incident's outcome could have been much worse, had the soldiers acted differently.
"In the other five ships there was no need for live ammunition, and the ships were properly intercepted and taken under control," he added.
Marom noted that before the violence began, Marmara passengers ignored the calls to stop the ship, and answered with "swearwords and improper behavior."
Senior IDF officers are not usually assigned bodyguards, except for the chief of staff.
