Ammonia leak detected near Shoham

Hazardous material leak in local factory prompts authorities to urge residents to stay inside, avoid opening windows

An ammonia leak was detected in the early hours of Sunday morning in an Osem factory in the Hevel Modiin industrial zone.
Fire and Rescue Service teams arrived at the scene and were able to contain the leak.

The residents of Shoham, a central Israel town adjacent to the industrial zone, were alerted to the leak. Authorities urged residents to stay inside and avoid opening windows or turning on air conditioners.
Two people reported suffering a burning sensation in their eyes overnight and were admitted to the Assaf Harofeh Medical Center in Zerifin.
The Environmental Protection Ministry has launched an investigation.
