The U.S. had secretly expelled two Chinese Embassy officials this fall after they drove on to a sensitive military base in Virginia, according to the New York Times who quoted people with knowledge of the episode.
According to the report, the officials were traveling with their wives last September, evaded military personnel pursuing them and stopped only after fire trucks blocked their path.
