Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei said on Tuesday that the United States is ruled by "wealthy Zionists and their corporate owners."
"Today, the peak of arrogance is the US, which is controlled by the wealthy Zionists & their corporate owners," said Khamenei. "The US is a manifestation of oppression. Thus, they’re abhorred by the world."
The head of the Islamic Republic was addressing a crowd in an anniversary event of the breakout of violent protests in the city of Tabriz in 1978 that fueled civic tensions, leading to the Islamic revolution in the country the following year.
