Bank Hapoalim Ltd. has agreed to pay $874 million to settle U.S. charges that it conspired with U.S. taxpayers and others to hide more than $7.6 billion in secret Swiss and Israeli accounts, federal prosecutors said.
The bank, Israel’s largest, also pleaded guilty to conspiracy, U.S. Attorney Geoffrey Berman in Manhattan said in a press release.
Bank Hapoalim also agreed to pay more than $30 million for its role in the FIFA money laundering conspiracy.
The Israeli bank and its wholly-owned subsidiary admitted they, through employees, conspired to launder over $20 million in bribes and kickbacks to soccer officials with Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) and other soccer federations, the DOJ said in its statement.
