Health Ministry Director-General Moshe Bar Siman Tov told Ynet Monday evening that Israel will not go under lockdown during the holiday of Lag BaOmer but the tradition of lighting bonfires will be banned this year in order to prevent gatherings that may lead mass coronavirus infections.
Earlier on Monday, the National Security Council (NSC) advised the government to impose a nationwide closure during Lag BaOmer and prevent pilgrims from visiting the tomb of Rabbi Shimon bar Yochai, a leading 2nd-century sage, in the northern Israeli town of Meron for the anniversary of his death.
